![]() In the Acts of the Apostles, we hear how the deacon Philip was on the Gaza road and came across an Ethiopian Eunuch. The eunuch invited Philip into his carriage and there began a conversation which was to change the eunuch’s life. What happened over this conversation? What happened in the eunuch’s heart for him to ask for baptism? How did Philip open up the Scriptures to this eunuch and reveal to him the person of Jesus Christ? These are big questions for us today as we struggle to reach out to our young people and communicate the Gospel to a new generation. |

The
“Philip Course” is part of the Ke Ka Ko (Kerygma, Karisma,
Koinonia) School of Evangelisation, where the emphasis is on an EXPERIENCE
of the Gospel message: not just head knowledge, but heart transformation.
In this instance it will be run over one evening and a non-residential
weekend although it can be run in different ways.
The
course objectives are a personal encounter with the person of Jesus who
is risen and alive and the use of a dialogue that enables participants
to pass that on to others, especially young people. It takes the participants
through the 6 points of the Gospel Message step-by-step, using a kerygmatic
proclamation based on the Word of God and testimony. This proclamation
leads into a guided time of response to that particular Gospel step, with
the invitation to actively participate in a “dynamic”. It
is this active participation that enables people to experience and be
transformed by the Word |

| We realise that there are already youth initiatives in some Parishes and we would like to support these in any way we can, however there is a need for a shared vision and approach to working with young people throughout the diocese so that all young people are given the opportunity to take up their rightful place within the Church as radical Christian Catholics. | ||||

| This
year we will be coming to each part of the diocese to provide this training
course. The vision is that as a result of the course there will be a local
team of trained and envisioned leaders who can provide a regular meeting
place for the young people of that area so that they can grow in their
relationship with Jesus and learn how to share their faith with others. |

For this purpose the Diocese has been divided into 6 Areas West Cumbria, Carlisle, Barrow and Kendal, Lancaster and Morecambe, Blackpool, Preston
